The following typographic conventions are used in this cookbook.
Anything that is to be typed into a computer program via the keyboard,
or output from one via the screen, is indicated by a ‘typewriter’ font
like this.
Lines that are to be typed into the computer are shown beginning with a % sign, for example:
The %
indicates the Unix ‘shell prompt’ and should not be typed in. However:
items appearing in graphical windows, such as those used by GAIA or xcatview, are shown in a sans serif font like this.
Finally:
items of particular importance are shown in bold and indented paragraphs like this one.
Asides and points of interest are usually shown as footnotes.
